Beta Program

How the Fable beta works — from signing up to getting approved and downloading the app. Everything you need to know about joining and sharing your invite.

How the Beta Works

Fable is currently in a closed beta. We review every application personally to build a community of writers who will shape the product with us. There's no credit card required and no cost during the beta.

Here's how it works, step by step.

Signing Up

Visit the beta page

Head to fable.la/beta. You'll see a short intro and a button to get started.

Sign in with Google

We use Google sign-in so your account carries over seamlessly to the desktop app. No extra passwords to remember.

Tell us about yourself

A short form asks four things:

  • What OS you use — Mac, Windows, or Linux (we auto-detect this for you)
  • Who you collaborate with — solo, small team, or larger group
  • What you write — fiction, non-fiction, screenwriting, academic, or something else
  • A bit about your workflow — what you're working on and what's painful about your current process

This helps us understand how you'll use Fable and prioritize the right people.

You're on the list

After submitting, you'll see a confirmation with your email. We'll reach out when we're ready to bring you aboard.

Waiting for Approval

We review every application by hand. We're looking for writers with a real workflow who'll give us honest feedback — not just "sounds cool." When a spot opens up, we'll send you an email.

Keep an eye on the email address you signed in with. That's where your approval will land.

Referrals

After you apply, you'll get a personal referral link. Share it with friends who write — the more people you invite, the higher you climb on the waitlist leaderboard.

You can share your link via:

  • Copy link — paste it anywhere
  • X (Twitter), Facebook, WhatsApp, or Email — one-click sharing buttons on the confirmation page

Your position on the leaderboard updates in real time. Come back to check your rank anytime.

Getting Approved

When we approve your application, you'll receive an email with a download link for your platform. Click it and you'll land on the download page.

Open the email

Look for the subject line "You're in! Download Fable" from hello@fable.la.

Download the app

Click the download button in the email. It'll take you to the right installer for your OS. On Mac, the app is signed and notarized by Apple.

Sign in with the same Google account

When you open Fable for the first time, sign in with the same Google account you used to apply. Your beta access is tied to that account.

After You're In

Once you're signed in to the desktop app, you're ready to go. Here are a few things to try first:

  • Create a project — give it a name and an emoji, then add your first document
  • Try a voice edit — hold the mic button and say something like "Make the opening paragraph more dramatic"
  • Invite a collaborator — go to project settings and invite someone by email to edit together in real time

FAQ

Can I change the Google account I signed up with?

Not right now. Your beta access is tied to the Google account you used to apply. If you need to switch, reach out to us.

How long does approval take?

It varies. We review applications in batches and prioritize writers who describe a clear workflow and pain point. Referrals help move you up the list.

Is there a cost during the beta?

No. Fable is free during the beta. We cover the AI inference costs. After the beta, we'll transition to paid plans — beta users who stick around will get a head start.

What if I applied but never got an email?

Check your spam folder for emails from hello@fable.la. If you still can't find it, visit fable.la/beta and sign in — the page will show you your current status.
